We had a very successful initial AGM (Annual General Meeting) at Formby Conservative Club on Thursday night (over a few drinks), and a very important one. At the meeting I announced that I am resigning my position as Chairman of Sefton Conservative Future. This is because I had been offered, and had accepted, a three-month internship in London and did not feel I could give Sefton CF the leadership it deserves, at least not while on the other side of the UK.

As a result I opened nominations for elections for the following four positions in a restructured committee at the AGM:

Chairman
Vice-Chairman (Southport)
Vice-Chairman (Sefton Central)
Vice-Chairman (Bootle)

Each of the four positions recieved a single nomination from among those present at the AGM. However, if anyone else wishes to nominate themselves for one of these positions then please submit a written nomination (an e-mail or even a mobile phone text is sufficient) to me by the 16th September. If there is more than one nomination for any position after the 16th then an election process will begin for contested positions. Please feel free to contact me if you require more information about the positions, what they involve or how the process works.

I should add on a separate note that anyone who wishes to view the minutes of the AGM or the wording of the new constitution can contact myself or Andrew Hall to obtain a copy.

Finally, as the co-founder and first Chairman of this organisation I am proud to have seen it grow in numbers, reputation and influence in Sefton, and I wish to thank all of those who have been a part of that – coming to events, recruiting your friends, campaigning for us, serving on the initial founding committee or whatever else. Sefton CF is nothing without its members, and it was a pleasure to work with all of you.

The Sefton Central Conservative Association are holding a BBQ day at Maghull Conservative Club on Saturday 14th August. There will be attractions including a bar and drinks, food, bowls, snooker, a putting range, and some of us may be venturing into Liverpool in the evening, depending on what happens.

Tickets are discounted for members of Sefton CF and it will be a pretty good event. It is also possible (though unconfirmed) that some MEP’s and local celebrities might be in attendance.

It would be really great if everyone could show up, not only to have a good time and meet friends old and new but also to help raise money for future campaigns.

The full timetable is:

• 16th August – Opening of Nominations
• 6th September – Close of nominations at noon
• 6th September – List of valid candidates published at 5pm
• 7th September – Last time for a candidate to withdraw at 5pm
• 7th September – Last time for a candidate to provide the 500 words for the website
• 8th September – Distribution of ballot papers
• 27th September – Close of Ballot at 12 noon
• 27th September – Count of Ballot at 5pm

All members of the Party aged under 30 (of at least three months standing) are eligible to stand in the elections for the following positions:

National Executive:

• National Chairman
• Deputy Chairman (Political)
• Deputy Chairman (Membership)
• Appointed Officer

Regional Chairmen:

• Regional Chairman for Northern Ireland
• Regional Chairman for Wales
• Regional Chairman for Yorkshire & The Humber
• Regional Chairman for North West England
• Regional Chairman for North East England
• Regional Chairman for West Midlands
• Regional Chairman for East Midlands
• Regional Chairman for Eastern England
• Regional Chairman for South West England
• Regional Chairman for South East England
• Regional Chairman for London

Once elected the Regional Chairmen will each form a regional executive made up of Area Chairman, who will be elected at local AGMs.

As stated in the timetable nominations will open on 16th August 2010. Nomination forms and further information will be listed on the CF website from that date.

With the CF national elections fast approaching it is vital that you check that you are registered to vote.

Every year there is a CF election there is normally one branch that is unable to vote as they have not sent through their membership data.  Don’t let you or your branch be disenfranchised.

How do you check you are registered to vote?

- Contact your local association and confirm you are a paid up member of the Conservative Party.

- You are automatically a member of Conservative Future and eligible to vote if aged 30 or under (no separate costs or signup required).

- You must provide an address so that Central Office can send you a ballot paper in the post (email addresses alone are not enough).

The Conservative Party Co-Chairmen have announced their intension to hold elections for the leadership of Conservative Future.

The elections will be held during the summer and will be concluded by this year’s Party Conference.

The electoral roll will be made up of every member of the Party under the age of 30. Over the next few weeks associations will be asked to send in relevant data to make up the electorate. For university members to vote, the branch must ensure that their data has been sent to the local association. CF members who joined the Party centrally (through conservatives.com) will be added automatically.

Nominations for all available positions will announced shortly.
